The Gothic era like some many other design era's was structured around Religion. The Gothic era was from 1140-1500. Paris was the center of the Gothic world. The churches were the center of city. This design period was famous for 3 features in their designs the pointed arch, the ribbed vault and the flying buttress. The the Gothic churches were obsessed with light. They had floor to ceiling stain glass windows the flying buttress was actually invited as an outside support mechanization. This was so they had more wall space for Windows. their stain glass windows are amazing the consist of rose windows, tracery, Harmony and Equal proportion.

Romanesque Design
The fundamental emblematic structure of the Romanesque was the church. Since churches were built to serve the specific requirements of the liturgy, their construction changed as those needs changed. Romanesque architects built a wide variety of different buildings, of which the most common were: village churches, abbey churches, cathedrals and castles. The most important were the great abbey churches, many of which are in use. Typical characteristics of Romanesque architecture include semi-circular, thick walls, Arcades, masonry vaulted roof and towers. some of the more famous buildings designed in the Romanesque design is the Pisa Baptistery.

Byzantine
The Byzantine era was from 330-1453 C.E. The Byzantine culture were way head of their time. They created architectural marvels. The creation of the Pendentive which was a new way of supporting a dome with a square base. The most incredible architecture created by the Byzantine culture is the Hagia Sophia. The central designed basilica is the most amazing example of Byzantine architecture. this massive building shown below only took 5 years and without vase resources. Where as the Notre Dam cathedral took a century to build. They Byzantine people were also very into mosaic tiles and mosaic art.

Early Christian
The early Christian Era Was between the times of 330-800 C.E. The main development of this time was the christian religion. Before this time Christianity was thought to be an abomination and people that were found guilty of practicing the faith of Christianity were persecuted. The emperor Constantine was the first to recognize Christianity as a valid religion in 313 C.E. in the beginning the early Christians met in homes or existing buildings but they soon grew out of those spaces and looked to make new facilities. They came up with a structure called eh basilica, it was designed as a place of worship that looked like a cross a long alley called a navel on either side of the navel are the aisle the entrance is the Northex and the head of basilica is the Apse and on either side of that are the transept. The Early Christians started the movement for the great cathedrals we have today.
