prehistoric period

The prehistoric period in design is problem the hardest period to study because we have no written proof of what happen or how they lived. We study the artifacts and make general conclusions from what we find, where we find it and etc.. that being said we have found many things that helps has image what life could have been like, such as wood and stone figures that make us assume that they had some kind of belief in a high power. Patterns and design were displayed in weaving of blankets, baskets, rugs and clothing. They displayed there colors and patterns in a purposeful way to represent society, tribal groups and loyalties. In the prehistoric period man-kind was very resourceful of the things that were around them when it came to homes, homes in the artic were igloos, in the Sahara desert were underground to keep warm and furniture was rarely used. They had a sense of community because homes were found in groups yet they still had a feel of individual family. They organized their homes where centered around the fire pit. The prehistoric period was mostly a design period of basic needs and making the most of what they have.

From the prehistoric period

Skara Brae historic place

Skara-trae Neolithic village in Scotland. This is an individual family home centered around the fire pit.

this a portray of life in the prehistoric period. They lived in caves and drew artwork on the walls.

Examples from today's design

homes today are still created from caves. This is still any example of a dinning room

This is another example of a home made out of a cave this is an example of a bedroom.
