American Period

The American Period consisted of three subgroups victorian, Federal and Shaker. The Victorian which was named after queen Victoria  was a more elaborate subgroup with a lot of colorful exteriors and ornate furniture. The Federal Subgroup is used in exactly how it sounds federal. So it can be seen in our government buildings and furniture designers such as duncan Phyfe thrived during this time period. The Last Subgroup is Shaker period which is based on Simple but built well. The shaker time period is still used very much today because it does have a simple clean and adaptable. The american time period was a very versatile design that is used today in modern architecture.

English Renaissance

The english renaissance was spilt in to three time periods with many different sub periods. The major time periods were the late, the Mid, and the late. The sub periods usually were named after the rulers at that time or a designer who had great influence over the design in that era. England started into the path of the renaissance much later then the other european countries because it is an island. The english renaissance started in the late 15th century almost a hundred years after the italians. The major styles that are still very prevalent today are the Elizabethan, Tudor and Baroque. The english design was defiantly more of a more masculine design era and had a lot of manly things.

french renaissance

The revival of classical art and architecture during the Renaissance spread from Italy to France in the 15th and 16th century, giving rise to the majority of the famous French châteaux, mostly in the Loire valley. During the first half of the 16th century, Francis I established his court at Fontainebleau outside Paris, where he employed numerous Italian architects and artists, including Sebastiano Serlio, Il Rosso, and Francesco Primaticcio. At the same time native architects came into favor; they included Pierre Lescot, who built parts of the Louvre, and Philibert Delorme, who designed the Château of Anet. Some qualities of the French Renaissance are symmetrical arrangement of windows and doors, extensive use of classical columns and pilasters, triangular pediments, square lintels, arches, domes, niches with sculptures, and steep roofs.

Spanish renaissance

The Spanish Renaissance followed the Italian Renaissance in the 15-16th century. It in kind of a mix of all the other period that we have learned about, the Spanish Renaissance has a little piece of each period.  Renaissance architecture was that style of architecture which evolved firstly in Florence and then Rome and other parts of Italy as the result of Humanism and a revived interest in Classical architecture. This new focus in art, literature and science, inspired by Classical antiquity and especially the Greco-Roman tradition, receives the transcendental impulse in this year by various successive historical events:Unification of the longed-for Christian kingdom with the definitive taking of Granada, last city of Islamic Spain and the successive expulsions of thousands of Muslim and Jewish believers,The official discovery of the western hemisphere, the Americas,The publication of the first grammar of a vernacular European language, the Grammar by Antonio de Nebrija.

Italian Reniassiance

The Italian Renaissance was a time in advancements in science and arts. They invented new forms and new visual language that was not derived from the classical period. In the process, the architects, humanists, and painters of the Renaissance for architecture was considered a universal art in the Renaissance invented a new idea of public space in which civic pride and organization would be organized on a city-wide scale. In the Renaissance, architecture was seen as the supreme art. Architectural design was carried out by professional architects, painters, sculptors such as Michelangelo, humanists, masons, and just plain amateurs with a lot of time and money.

Gothic Design Era

The Gothic era like some many other design era's was structured around Religion. The Gothic era was from 1140-1500. Paris was the center of the Gothic world. The churches were the center of city. This design period was famous for 3 features in their designs the pointed arch, the ribbed vault and the flying buttress. The the Gothic churches were obsessed with light. They had floor to ceiling stain glass windows the flying buttress was actually invited as an outside support mechanization. This was so they had more wall space for Windows. their stain glass windows are amazing the consist of rose windows, tracery, Harmony and Equal proportion.
